Cast from crushed stone resin. Painstakingly hand painted. Imposing 5.5 inch (140 mm) king. Weighted and felted. Presented in superb gift packaging. Collectors item. Ideal for a 21 inch (53 cm) board. Beautifully detailed figurative chess pieces from Studio Anne Carlton. This allegorical depiction encapsulates the ancient religious war that spanned hundreds of years. These pieces portray specific crusades to restore Christian control of the Holy Land that were fought between 1095 and 1291. Fabricated from a crushed stone composite then hand painted, the level of detail is simply staggering from every angle. Each side depicts completely different figures - Christian forces and Muslim warriors. With a king's base diameter of 1.4 inches (36 mm) these pieces could be combined with an 18 - 19 inch board (46 - 48 cm). However, due to their height we suggest a 21 inch (53 cm) board to retain comfortable proportions.
